CRACK CLOUD TOUGH BABY

Canadian multi-media collective Crack Cloud release expansive new single 'Tough Baby', the second from their highly anticipated new album of the same name, set for release on 16th of September on Meat Machine Records. In a musical landscape characterised by ubiquity of spoken/yelping vocals and 'angular' guitars, Crack Cloud have always stood out as something harder to fit under the overreaching banner of 'post-punk', their self definition as a collective rather than a band and their use of visual mediums art that contributes to their ambitious world-building and their dedicated messaging on rehabilitation through creativity set them aside as something truly unique. Whilst there are still echoes of the rhythmic pulsing Gang of Four/This Heat energy of their first releases, 'Tough Baby' demonstrates the scope of their musical variety, in under 5 minutes they manage to seamlessly traverse between a number of different genre's and moods, from chilled clubby piano loops, perpetually wailing guitars, noisy breakdowns, gorgeous group vocals and and subtlety arranged strings and horn sections. Founder Zak Choy describes the album and the ideology behind it, "Our body of work has been largely informed by some of the darker chapters in our lives; we’ve taken a moment to examine beyond that in Tough Baby. The potency of the imagination, the magic and mystery of our world and its history from an adolescent gaze. We wanted to fall in love with our craft again by recalling the mysticism of our youth."
